Roots
I was born in England, I spent my childhood in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), and as a teenager I lived in Australia.
Study
First I studied recorder in Sydney and later at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis: viola da gamba with Rebeka Ruso, recorder with Corina Marti and fiddle with Randall Cook.
Professional
I work as a freelance musician playing music from the 13th to the 18th century – mainly in small ensembles, often viol consort. But there is also seasonal work with orchestras and choirs playing some of the great baroque works.
Why
I didn’t choose this profession; I’ve always done a lot of music, and it was just an extension of what I was already doing anyway.
Elective Affinities
I love Patrick O’Brian’s novels – wonderful adventure stories with occasional musical references that make them stand out.
