Roots
I was born and raised in Basel. I got into lute playing as a teenager – was it an open day at the Basel Music School? – and was able to start lessons with Anne Bailes.
Study
At the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis I studied lute with Hopkinson Smith. In a second master’s program with Marc Lewon, I focused on Renaissance music. In the Advanced Vocal Ensemble Studies program, I received in-depth insights into ensemble singing.
Professional
I play in the ensemble Concerto di Margherita, which performs the self-accompanied singing of the 16. and 17th century brought to life. Musically I am also on the road with Leones, Miroir de Musique and Profeti della Quinta. I am also fascinated by the improvisation models of the 17th century, for which I often collaborate with the violinist Félix Verry.
Why
I loved recordings of this music from the beginning. And the sound aesthetics of plucked instruments particularly appeal to me.
Elective Affinities
My favorite book is: “The cultural history of modern times“ by Egon Friedell.
Something else
As a child I loved listening to Georg Kreisler, the singer, composer and poet who accompanied himself on the piano.
