Díaz de Corcuera Herrador
Voice (tenor, in its historical meaning).
Roots
I was born in Bilbao (Vizcaya), but I don’t know Basque…. and I grew up in a small village in the south of Navarre.
Study
I was a pueri-cantor in the Escolanía de la Abadía de la Santa Cruz (San Lorenzo del Escorial). I studied singing at the Conservatory of Pamplona (Navarra). I completed my studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
Professional
Until shortly before the pandemic, I was a professor specializing in historical performance practice in the master’s degree program
“
Musical studies
”
at the Universidad Central (Bogotá, Colombia). I am currently a freelance early music performer and work on musicological projects commissioned by other performers.
Why
Since childhood I have been seduced by the idea of playing the music of the past, studying the information we have about its performance.
Elective Affinities
Something that changed my life was a train trip through Italy in the summer of 1994, singing Monteverdi madrigals on the streets… that was beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
Something else
I just finished a Master’s degree in Applied Musicology at the University of La Rioja and I am about to start a PhD in Musicology at the same university. In 2000 I won the Musica Antiqua competition (Bruges) and the IYAP of Laus Polyphoniae (Antwerp) with the ensemble La Trulla de Bozes.
