he Renaissance was a period of remarkable development for the harp family. The instruments grew larger, their sound evolved – among other things through the increased use of buzzing bray pins – and the first attempts were made to create a fully chromatic harp.
Our “harp parcours” presents three different sound worlds and repertoires of the Renaissance harp:
-
Gothic bray harp, with repertoire from the Welsh Ap Huw manuscript, one of the few sources that transmit techniques and repertoire written specifically for the harp
-
Early arpa doppia, the two-row chromatic harp, with instrumental music and diminutions from the early 16th century
-
Early Italian repertoire for the triple harp
Carolin Margraf – arpa doppia
Flora Papadopoulos – triple harp
Claire Piganiol – Gothic harp; direction
