Music before 1600

ReRenaissance-Januarkonzert 2026. Foto: Maryam Javad

ReRenaissance invites audiences to immerse themselves in a richly coloured sound world that is vibrant, surprising, and diverse.  Each month, new and carefully researched concert programmes are premiered, making Renaissance music not only audible but truly experiential. Audiences encounter rare instruments, timbres, and captivating stories from a seemingly lost world, presented by Renaissance music specialists from the Basel region and beyond.

At the same time, ReRenaissance serves as a forum for exchange between music, scholarship, craftsmanship, and the performing arts. Each concert is unique – a world premiere that sheds new light on a particular place, time, source, or idea from the Renaissance. Together, these programmes form a panorama of “music before 1600” that is as educational as it is sensorial: a cultural experience of international significance.

In the Press

Listen to the broadcast on BR-Klassik from May 2025, 500 Years of the Peasants’ War: 1525 through the Medium of Music. The programme also focuses on the ReRenaissance concert on broadsheets, as well as the performance of Marc Lewon.

“Marc Lewon is especially compelling, performing as a blend of ballad singer and Bob Dylan, strumming his cittern and bravely delivering all 50 stanzas of a contemporary eyewitness account with a fine singing voice.”
