Giovanna
Baviera
viola da gamba and Voice
Roots
I was born in Luxembourg with Italian and Irish roots.
Study
After studying musicology at Trinity College in Dublin, I came to Basel in 2011 to study with Paolo Pandolfo at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
Professional
I work as a freelance, sometimes singing gambist with various ensembles. I mainly play music from the 16th to the 18th century, with excursions into contemporary repertoire. In my own “Soloindue” program I deepen the art of self-accompanied singing on the viola da gamba.
Why
Because I want to share the love of music, and because making music nourishes me.
Elective Affinities
I enjoy being with people, love good food and traveling.
Something else
Immediately before a concert, I listen to music that is completely different from what I’m going to play.
